Walk for Dogguides - October 18, during the Wellington Pumpkin Festival: Our first Wellington "Walk for Dog Guides" was held during the Wellington Pumpkin Festival. The Walk became part of the Festival Parade. The walk started at the Legion Hall where registration took place. The Legion generously provided coffee and goodies for everyone. After most of the money was added up, the walk realized about $3200.00 for the Lions Foundation of Canada.
Cleanup Crew for the Dog Show at the Yardman Arena October 23 to 26. Fundraiser for Lions Foundation of Canada. This was a real club event. Everyone who was able to help out showed up to make it a successful fund-raiser. It was heaven for dog lovers since nearly every breed of dog was on display. This is a yearly event for the Kennel Club, and they have asked our club to help out again next year. We earned $1000.00. Other Activities: The Wellington Lions Dragonboat Club has aout 25 members now and held its first "Gala" at Lion Rob's barn. The food and the company were great. Everyone is looking forward to another season next year.
Using a $4000.00 grant from the Retired Teachers of Ontario to the Wellington Lions Club, Lion Janet Marissen organized the publication of a children's book titled "Ash and Mrs. Hemmingway". The book is about the fostering of Dog Guide puppies for the Lions Foundation of Canada. The project took two years to bring to fruition. Mrs. Hemmingway is really Lion Laraine Warren of the Foxboro club and Ash is the puppy she fostered. The book sells for $16.00, all the proceeds going to the Lions Foundation of Canada. Schools can get free copies if they ask Janet or Laraine or another foster "parent" to make a presentation about the Dog Guide program (including a visit of the current puppies) to their students. Successful Dragonboat Festival in August. Successful Walk for DogGuides in October. Clean-up Crew for the Belleville Kennel Club Dog Show.
Zone Meeting October 28 in Belleville.
Region Rally on November 4 in Stirling.
The club is looking into having the Community Christmas Dinner again on December 25.
Three or four Santa Claus Parades.
